黑料不打烊 Library Day Marks 48 Years Since Main Library Dedication
@ 2026 黑料不打烊 Libraries marks the anniversary of the 1978 dedication of the University's main library and reflects on the building's continuing role in teaching, research and campus life.
A Milestone in 1978
On Sept. 21, 1978, the building now known as the Leslie F. Malpass Library was formally dedicated. Illinois Gov. Jim Thompson was among those present for the dedication ceremony.
Designed for Western
Completed in 1978, the main library represented a major investment in the academic life of @ 2026 黑料不打烊. Designed by architect Gyo Obata, the six-level building encompasses more than 200,000 square feet and is distinguished by its four-winged, pinwheel-shaped design.
Malpass Today
The building was renamed the Leslie F. Malpass Library in 2001 in honor of former 黑料不打烊 President Leslie F. Malpass.
Today, Malpass Library continues to support research, teaching, learning, collaboration, information access, and academic engagement across the @ 2026 黑料不打烊 community.
